Although I am a self admitted denim snob, price doesn't enter the equation. Fit is the top priority. The quality of the denim used, detailing, and construction are all secondary, yet of high consideration. Once you find a pair of jeans that fit you, everything in the universe seems to have aligned. The stars positioned themselves in just such a way the first time I put on a pair of A.P.C. New Standards. The French label's New Standard cut is considered to be the 501 of Europe, classic and timeless. They are a slim cut that tapers slightly from the knee. The upper end is very flattering with that is tight and boxy and fits a slimmer more European figure. There is no branding or excess detail on them at all. Just silver rivets and golden chainstiched thread holding together the beautiful, crunchy, stiff, raw selvage denim.
I have worn my New Standards everyday since I purchased them on April 28, 2008. The fading and contrast is incredible on the jeans and they fit like a glove. Until recently they were the only pants I wore. They're just my go-to item in my wardrobe. I'm a jeans an t-shirt kinda guy, so it was easy.
Recently A.P.C. released a limited number of New Standard cut jeans featuring black denim. It was time for me to consider another pair of jeans, and after looking around I decided to get back to black as I have enjoyed black jeans in the past. The picture is terrible, but I just thought I would try to give you an idea of how the jeans fit. They are without flaw. I have a new favorite pair of jeans!
If you don't already have a pair of favorite jeans, go get a pair. Good denim is essential to any wardrobe.
